Scheme of Work: Body Image, KS3

£24.99

Introduce the young people in your care to body image literacy, body acceptance, diversity, body kindness and advocacy.

An Introduction to Body Image, a scheme of work for pupils aged 11-14 (or years 7 to 9, ie. KS3) has been developed by teachers for teachers, piloted by teachers and peer reviewed by our multi-disciplinary team of professionals.

This scheme of work has been mapped to Ofsted and National Curriculum requirements and will enable you to meet the new RSE statutory curriculum. It’s also easily adaptable for any curriculum. Designed as a series of bitesize, 20 minute lessons to be delivered during form time, these sessions can be taught over one week or half a term.

(We also recommend downloading our After Care Guidance resource here.)

SCHEME OF WORK CONTAINS:

  1. Five PowerPoint presentations with accompanying teaching notes for each slide (multi-dimensional format with video clips included to illustrate key points and improve engagement and discussion starters throughout each session). Detailed teaching notes on each slide.

  2. Introduction with teaching notes offering further background and direction, making this an easily accessible scheme for all teachers regardless of specialist subject. Mapped to National Curriculum and Ofsted frameworks, but easily adaptable for any curriculum.

  3. Accompanying activity sheets to complete during sessions.

  4. Journaling sheet for home contemplation study.

  5. Pupil questionnaire for optional pre-session use, to gauge student perceptions of body image and highlight key areas of concern before teaching scheme of work.

This is a digital product. Upon purchase you will receive a link to download your teaching pack.

As part of the Scheme of Work we offer a personalised (anonymised) data analysis service - you help us measure our impact by completing a short online survey and asking your students to do the same as part of home learning to consolidate their knowledge, AND we’ll analyse the data we obtain about your setting and let you know the impact your teaching of these resources has had on your students.

WHY BODY HAPPY ORG?

There are a few body image teaching resources out there, we know, we’ve seen them all. So why should you invest in ours? Here at Body Happy Org we do things differently. Our focus is on culture change, so advocacy is front and centre of what we do. Body image isn’t a “me” problem, it’s a “we” problem. And helping children and young people be friends with their own bodies means nothing if it doesn’t also include helping them to think about how they treat the bodies of others too.

Our resources don’t just help children and young people think about individualised concepts such as “How do I feel about my body?”. They also help them think about wider societal concepts such as representation, advocacy, discrimination and bias, as well.

What’s more, our resources aren’t made by a team of academics who’ve never set foot in a school classroom. Our resources are made by a team of teachers with deep knowledge and first-hand experience of the subject matter, including teaching it. Our resources have also been proofed and collaborated on with our wider multi-disciplinary team, which includes academics, health professionals and campaigners with lived experience of the related issues too.

We are a small but mighty non-profit, not funded by big business or powered by the motive to pay big bonuses or dividends to shareholders. We’re a social enterprise, which means our mission is social impact. And that starts in your classroom. When you purchase from us not only do you get top quality teaching resources you won’t find anywhere else. You also get the warm and fuzzy feeling of knowing you’re supporting an organisation helping to help the kids in your care be friends with their bodies.
