Student Sessions

vibrant, inspiring and innovative body image workshops for schools, designed and delivered by a specialist team.

Thank you so much for all your hard work with our children. It was so great to have you in and we will definitely be booking you again next year.
— Kathryn Whitford, year 6 teacher, Hazeldown Primary School

Our body image workshops for schools are based on our unique framework of learning, offering an interactive, evidence-based approach mapped to National Curriculum requirements. We have a suite of workshops which can be delivered right through from EYFS up to Key Stage 4.

We do not see body image as an after-thought or an added extra in a school curriculum, but a core foundation of raising happy, content, active and engaged learners.

Body Happy Org’s Student Sessions can help introduce your students to some of the core concepts necessary to cement a culture that nurtures body esteem amongst the children and young people in your setting, with all the benefits of third party delivery.

Positive body image is an area that impacts well-being, health, PE and sport engagement, academic attainment and safeguarding, with research showing negative body image can affect children as young as three years old. We know, however, that this is an often over-looked area, with limited teacher training and opportunities for professional development. Body Happy Org’s Student Sessions are an accessible, affordable and impactful way to outsource this vital but sensitive area of the curriculum. The impact of these sessions goes far beyond PSHE requirements though. Scroll down to read about how these sessions are aligned with primary school PE and sport premium goals.

A huge thank you for leading the workshop for our Year 5 and 6 pupils. This was a fantastic session with all of the pupils thoroughly enjoying the session, posing questions and engaging in thoughtful and reflective discussion about this subject matter. Thank you also for providing the aftercare documentation and feedback from the session with pupil voice.
— Simon Westwood, Head of School, Chudleigh Knighton C of E Primary school

With both online and in-person offerings (location dependent) we offer sessions for ages 3 up to 18. Both our online and in-person offerings are interactive and discussion-led, with worksheets and follow-up activities.

Our sessions are designed and delivered by a highly trained team of multi-disciplinary professionals with specialist expertise in the subject of body image and children. Meet the team here.

If sending us a booking request, please ensure you have our email address in your safe list so we don’t go into your spam folder or get blocked by your school filter system: hello@bodyhappyorg.com. Alternatively, you can phone us on 020 33897965 or send us a message at that number via WhatsApp for Business.

Please note: we are a small team with one facilitator based in each part of the UK that we cover. For this reason, early booking is advisable. We are often unable to accommodate last minute bookings and many schools we work with tend to book at least a term in advance.

impact confidence

Since the start of 2024 we’ve worked with more than 840 children, with a 50% improvement on body image literacy rates as a result of the sessions. As a social enterprise we take impact measurement seriously. So seriously, in fact, that we’re working with the University of Lincoln this year on a formal impact measurement study.

Our robust internal impact measurement framework includes pre and post surveys with children in upper KS2 and above, as well as a pre and post session learning outcomes activity with children in younger year groups.

We share this data with the schools we work with in a detailed personalised school impact report, enabling you to evidence your commitment to student wellbeing and pupil voice, while ensuring we are accountable to our own impact goals too.

Thank you so much for running the session, the children and I certainly got a lot out of it.
— Annette Smith, Year 6 Teacher, Galmpton C of E Primary School

unique, inspiring and pioneering sessions

Body image workshops for children and young people from The Body Happy Organisation are the only ones of their kind. Developed by a multi-disciplinary team of experts our school body image workshops offer children and young people a fresh, empowering perspective on subjects related to body image, including media literacy, health and advocacy.

Our sessions are age-appropriate, offering children and young people an opportunity to explore:

  • What body image is, and why it matters (with discussion led activities and case studies to help students consider these subjects in a way that relates to their own lives)

  • Age appropriate media literacy techniques (including discussions around using social media in a positive way)

  • Caring for our bodies with love and respect (including health behaviours for all and a weight inclusive, holistic perspective on health)

  • Advocacy and the bigger picture (recognising how body image issues are not just an individual problem, and encouraging students to consider their role in advocating for others whose bodies may not look or function like their own)

Our sessions use a multi-dimensional format for the ultimate in engagement, including bitesize videos, discussion-based activities and fun quizzes and interactive games. They’re delivered in an intimate workshop setting to create maximum impact and engagement.

Thank you so much for coming to deliver your amazing workshop this morning.  The children all thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot from you. They have continued to talk about body image throughout the day and have asked if they can share what they have learnt with the rest of the class when they are back tomorrow.
— Tracey Vickery, year 5 & 6 teacher, Clawton Primary School

A whole setting approach

Here at Body Happy Org we believe in a whole setting approach, which is why we encourage schools, youth organisations and childcare settings to sign up for a Body Happy student session alongside a Body Happy Kids CPD workshop for staff, while also using our teaching resources in the classroom or books and activity packs.

Bespoke workshop and resource package options are available on request, where multiple schools in a federation or multi-academy trust wish to use our services. Get in touch today to enquire about availability and let us know your requirements and we can build a programme suitable for your specific setting’s needs.

OPTIONS

  • In-person, face-to-face session delivered to one class at a time, by a Body Happy Org workshop facilitator. Workshops can run from one hour to 90 minutes. Prices start from £175 and we offer a 20% discount where three or more workshops are booked. Please note: due to our workshop format, which consists of interactive discussion and activities, these sessions can only be delivered to class sized groups. In person sessions are always preferable, but we know this isn’t always possible. For this reason we also offer a virtual option, detailed below.

  • Virtual session delivered via Zoom to an entire year group who are in their own individual classrooms or form groups. The facilitator will be on the screen at the front of the class and the class teacher will help to co-ordinate and feedback discussion in each room. This is a budget-friendly option for schools who don’t have the resources to invest in smaller in-person sessions for all classes but still want to give their children the experience of an interactive workshop in an intimate setting delivered by a trained Body Happy Org workshop facilitator. Prices start from £200.

Primary school PE and sport premium

Research shows that body image is a major barrier to sport and PE, and that a body positive approach to movement in the school setting can also reduce inequalities of access to sport and PE. Investing in body image initiatives can both boost pupil participation in sport and PE and reduce inequalities of access.

Body Happy Org’s body image workshops for schools reduce barriers to participation in sport and PE by helping children to explore concepts of representation and stereotypes around movement, increasing health literacy, promoting joyful movement and celebrating body functionality. Our workshops for primary schools also incorporate a joyful movement activity utilising our Pocket Booster interactive affirmation activity decks with the class.

Thank you for making the day such a success. Attendees spoke highly of the amount of information and ideas they took from the workshops
— Tracey Raynor, Active Education Officer, Tees Valley Sport

Although body image falls under the PSHE curriculum, the benefits of promoting positive body esteem - and the impact of our body image workshops for schools - go far beyond the classroom.

Below are some survey responses specifically related to sport and physical activity. These were taken from our pre and post workshop surveys with year 5 and 6 children at various primary schools that we worked with at the start of 2024:

We enjoyed having Amy to deliver the workshops on Friday. I’m sure that the sessions gave food for thought for many of the children. It has also given us a vehicle with which to take forward our follow on discussions and activities.
— Catherine Tennant, Inclusion Manager & Mental Health Lead, Westmoor Primary School

DELIVERED BY A SPECIALIST TEAM

Body image can be a sensitive subject, and it requires specialist expertise and experience to deliver body image workshops that help children and young people explore conversations related to body esteem. Our workshops are preventative sessions, designed to help children and young people improve body image literacy and learn about ways to build body image resilience, as well as understand how their own actions can impact the body image of others.

All of our facilitators are trained in our approach, have previous experience working in body image and adjacent fields (education, mental health, nutrition and sport), have gone through a thorough due diligence and vetting process, and have been DBS checked. They also take place in regular supervision and ongoing professional development opportunities and peer-learning support.

When conducting in-school workshops, your facilitator will bring their DBS certificate and ID as a matter of course, as well as providing all of the resources necessary for our own impact measurement and accountability frameworks.
